House cleaning FAQs

Straight answers to what people ask us most: the products we use, how the reset-then-maintain clean works, whether you need to be home, how we handle allergy-prone households, and what the Home Health Review actually is.

We are a natural, allergy-friendly cleaning service for Brisbane's north and north-west, founded by Belinda Byrnes and run by a small team she trains and oversees.

If your question is not here, ask us directly and we will answer it plainly. See our services or get in touch via the [contact page](/contact).

Products

Are your products really non-toxic and fragrance-free?

Yes. Fragrance-free and free of harsh chemicals is our default, not an opt-in eco extra you pay more for. We do not spray synthetic air fresheners, we do not use scented sprays to make a room smell clean, and we do not leave a chemical haze behind. The reason is simple: Belinda cares about what a family breathes and touches after we leave, which is what led her to build the service around low-tox cleaning. Natural cleaning done properly still removes dirt, grime and grease. It just does it without the load of synthetic fragrance that many conventional products add to the air in your home.

What do you use, and what do you never use?

We use natural, low-tox cleaning products chosen to be gentle on the people and pets in the home while still doing the job. We never use products built around synthetic fragrance, and we avoid the harsh chemical cleaners that leave strong smells and residues on surfaces you touch every day. If you have specific products you love or specific ingredients you need us to avoid, tell us before the first clean and we will work to it. Every product is fragrance-free and free from SLS, parabens, phthalates, triclosan, bleach and added dyes, and we avoid essential oils as a rule.

Do you bring your own products and equipment?

Yes. We arrive with our own natural products and equipment, so you do not need to supply or store anything. If you would prefer we use a product you already own, for example something you know your skin tolerates, leave it out and let us know and we will use it. Some clients with sensitivities like us to work only with their own supplies, and that is completely fine.

Are eco or natural cleaning products actually effective?

Yes, when they are used properly and paired with method. A lot of cleaning power comes from technique: the right dwell time, the right cloth, agitation, and attention to the spots that actually hold grime. Harsh chemicals and heavy fragrance can make a product feel powerful without cleaning any better. We would rather do the physical work of cleaning thoroughly with natural products than mask a room with scent. It is worth knowing that some cleaners market themselves as eco-friendly while the products in the caddy tell a different story, so it pays to ask exactly what is being used. Curious how we approach it? Read [why I stopped using fragranced cleaning products at home](/blog/why-i-stopped-using-fragranced-cleaning-products-at-home).

The clean

How does the reset deep clean then maintenance model work?

We start with an extended reset: a deep, detailed first clean that gets the whole home back to a true baseline. This is the clean where we get under beds, behind and beneath furniture, along skirting boards, and into the high and low corners that standard cleaners routinely skip. Once the home is reset, ongoing weekly or fortnightly maintenance keeps it there, which is faster and easier because the deep work is already done. It is a premium, detail-focused model rather than a rushed flat-rate visit, and it is why the homes we look after stay genuinely clean rather than just surface-tidy. See the [deep clean reset](/services/deep-clean-reset) and [weekly or fortnightly cleaning](/services/weekly-fortnightly-cleaning) for detail.

Do I need to be home during the clean?

No. Many clients are at work or out with the kids while we clean, and we are happy to work from an agreed access arrangement. Others prefer to be home for the first reset clean so they can walk us through the home and point out priorities, then leave us to the maintenance visits. Whatever suits you works for us. We agree access and any pet arrangements before the first visit so there are no surprises.

Do you clean homes with pets?

Yes. Pets are part of the family and part of the household environment we clean around. We pay particular attention to the pet dander, hair and dust that settle into corners, skirting and under furniture, which helps reduce common household triggers in the home. Let us know about your animals before the first visit so we can plan access, keep gates and doors managed, and clean in a way that keeps them calm and safe.

Health & sensitivities

Can you clean for allergy-prone or sensitive households?

Yes, this is core to what we do. Fragrance-free, low-tox cleaning is our standard, which suits homes where someone reacts to synthetic scents or harsh chemical residues. Our detailed method targets the dust, allergens and pet dander that collect in the corners standard cleaners skip, which helps reduce common household triggers and supports a healthier home environment. To be clear, this is a cleaning service, not medical treatment: it is complementary to, not a replacement for, advice from your doctor or specialist, and individual results vary. Tell us about any sensitivities in the home and we will tailor products and method around them. See our [allergy-friendly cleaning](/services/allergy-friendly-cleaning) for more.

What is the Home Health Review and do I need one?

The Home Health Review is a guided walk-through of your home. Belinda assesses things like air quality, water quality, dust load, mould risk and the cleaning products already in use, then gives you a written report with practical recommendations. It is a category of its own: an in-home assessment rather than a sales visit. You do not need one to book a clean, and you do not need to book a clean to have one. Some people use it as a standalone health-of-the-home check, and others use it as a precursor to setting up cleaning. It is complementary to, not a replacement for, advice from your doctor or specialist, and individual results vary. Learn more about the [Home Health Review](/services/home-health-review).

Do you handle mould?

We flag mould risk and clean surface mould only where it is safe to do so. In a Home Health Review we assess the conditions that let mould take hold, such as moisture and airflow, and note where there is risk. During cleaning we can wipe down surface mould on suitable surfaces where it is safe. What we do not do is remediation: removing established or hidden mould, or mould inside building materials, is a specialist's job and should be handled by a qualified mould remediation professional. If we see something beyond safe surface cleaning, we will tell you plainly and point you toward the right specialist rather than paint over the problem. Booking

Which suburbs do you service?

We cover Brisbane's north and north-west, roughly within 10km of Gaythorne. That includes suburbs such as Gaythorne, Enoggera, Mitchelton, Everton Park, Ashgrove, The Gap, Keperra, Stafford, Grange, Newmarket, Alderley and Ferny Grove. If you are just outside that ring, get in touch anyway and we will let you know whether we can reach you. See all the [areas we cover](/areas).

Do you have a satisfaction guarantee?

We hold a high, detail-focused standard on every visit, and if something is not right we want to hear about it so we can put it right. If something we have agreed to clean has been missed, or has not been done properly, tell us within 7 days and we will happily come back and put it right at no charge. Your clean is booked for a set amount of time and we work through your agreed list thoroughly, so if particular areas matter most to you, tell us before we start and we will prioritise them. The reset-then-maintain model is built around consistency, so the standard you see at the first deep clean is the standard we hold to.

How do I get a quote and book?

Send us a message through the [contact page](/contact) with your suburb, the size of your home, and whether you are after the reset-then-maintenance cleaning, a Home Health Review, or both. We will come back to you with the next steps. Pricing depends on the size and condition of the home and how often you would like us, so we quote to your specific home rather than a one-size number. You can also see our [cleaning costs guide](/cleaning-costs). Our rate is $85 per hour. For a 3 bedroom home the initial deep clean is typically 10 to 15 hours depending on condition, usually completed in a single day with 2 cleaners, and ongoing maintenance visits are considerably shorter.
